Stunning Maternity | Calgary Maternity Photographer12.08.09

I have been so excited to share the next images but had to get through most of the Christmas work before I could. This series is actually made up of two sessions a few weeks ago. I got a note from the mom a couple of days before our scheduled maternity session and her partner was not going to be back from Montreal for the session. She asked if we could break the session into two sessions – a quick one with just her and then a quick one with the both of them (as he was then turning around to travel overseas). So, of course, I said yes but I also asked something back (don’t you just love it when there is a catch). I asked if she would mind if Jess video taped the session as I have been compiling footage of sessions to give everyone an idea of how a session works with me (debut early 2010, hopefully!). The reason for the video is that I have had a lot of clients ask to meet with me prior to the session to meet me as well as they would also like to see the studio in advance. I am always happy to meet prior but I also want to make it easier for you…thus figured a video would help. Anyway, there will be more on that later.

So I was so excited when N agreed…please note that this conversation occurred via email and so I give her a ton of credit for agreeing without having met me (and Jess). Well the session was FUN! Not only did we get some footage but we got to play with natural light, as well as studio. N is absolutely stunning and adorable as can be! Not sure that those two characteristics typically go together but this time they do.

Once her partner returned, they were back in for a second session and they are ADORABLE together. I can’t even wait for the newborn pictures!

We finally meet | Calgary Family Photographer11.11.09

So it seems that this new client was actually a large contributor to the beginning of my business almost 5 years ago. I ask each of my client’s who has referred them (as I have a Referral Bonus in place) and one client came to me four years ago without me knowing the person who referred them. That client then went on to refer me to many of her friends who then in turn referred me again. Anyway, when my family was out at a u-pick farm in the summer we waited in line behind a lady. The line up was quite long so we got an opportunity to talk quite extensively and we came to realize that we had met years ago in a UPS store as I was picking up my first set of business cards and she had taken a card at that time. Life had gotten away (as it does) and she had never come for pictures however, she had passed my name on to her friends. Well that client had gone on to spread the word. And that original client is scheduled to come later today (using a referral bonus). I do want to thank all of my “referrers”.

So beyond how this client found me I have to talk about how amazing they were to shoot. Her older son is one of the most intelligent, well-behaved and creative little guys that I have met! I learned about rockets, received pictures from him to decorate my fridge in the studio and thoroughly enjoyed working with him. So to top this story off, dad works from home as a graphic designer and stay-at-home dad and he truly is the baby whisperer! It was so neat to watch a dad that was so comfortable with his children. K and J, it was an ABSOLUTE pleasure to finally meet you!

So the little guy asked if he could take a picture at the end. The picture on the right is his shot of his dad and brother. He is a natural!

Watch Me Grow Round 2 | Calgary Maternity Photographer10.30.09

You may remember this client from their first Watch Me Grow year…well, they are back for round #2. This family is one of the most fun families to shoot. They have so much love for each other and have so much fun together. The evidence is in the pictures. K and N, I am so looking forward to the next year and to meeting your new little one!

As you will note there was a bit of a tongue theme to this session…it is so typical for the little guy’s to have their tongues sticking out a lot…whether they are concentrating to being shy. Well we mentioned this and it turned into the theme for the session. Might as well run with it;)

Gorgeous Newborns | Calgary Newborn Photographer10.08.09

Share/Save/Bookmark
I have had the most gorgeous newborns lately! Here is another new baby that I have the pleasure of taking pictures of last week. G and T, I apologize for the delaying in getting a sneak peek out to you.  I should have the rest up soon!

On that note…I am finally beginning to get back on top of things…okay, just as I gear up for a heavy couple of months. This year I cannot take all of the credit though. I decided to bring in an assistant this season to help me get through this very busy time and still continue to offer you exceptional service. There has been an increase in demand for sessions as well as for wall art. So when the opportunity arose a few weeks ago to hire this girl, I jumped at the chance. It has taken me a long time to get to this point of letting go a bit (I am sure this is a common woman thing) in addition to finding the perfect person. Jess will be helping me with some of the back office work, including album design (yes, this has been a new addition to my product line as well), Christmas cards and wall art mock ups. Jess has a degree in Photography from ACAD and thus far has been proving to be an awesome addition! I will get pictures of the new products and designs out soon.

Baby Boom | Calgary Newborn Photographer09.30.09

Share/Save/Bookmark
Wow, is there a baby boom in Calgary? I have had a ton of newborn sessions lately! Here is another 9 day old newborn that I had the pleasure of working with last week! Mom is a labour and delivery nurse in Calgary so was COMPLETELY comfortable whipping the little guy in and out of poses! Dad was pretty comfortable too (although he does not work with babies – he does have a really cool job though). Q and C, it was an absolute pleasure working with you and I will have the rest of your gallery up ASAP.
