A decade!03.04.16

So when this mom told me I had been photographing them for 10 years, I had to go back and find a picture. Crazy! It should not shock me how fast time flies as I document this all the time (and see it in my own children) but it still does. I have totally enjoyed doing these portrait sessions…I will be opening up another set of times in April…there will be more about that soon.

I asked if I could share this mom’s words that she had sent me after sending out her gallery because she describes exactly what I am going for with these:). “Oh, Jody…you have done it again! You continue to amaze me with how you capture my children. I don’t even know how to explain it. How you are able to see them in your lens as I see them. Thank you for helping me preserve this moment in time. I am so thankful that I have these moments, from toddler until now. It is incredible, the change that you have captured for me. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!“. Here are a few of the images of these two:). Oh and the blurry picture was a misfire of the break dancing but I loved it. Can totally see it as an abstract piece of art:).

2012 in review | Calgary Family Photographer01.16.13

Okay, so there is probably a reason that I have never gone back and put a year in review together for the blog before.  It is really hard for me to narrow down to one or two images from a session…especially one or two that I think that tell the story.  It was so fun to go back through the year this way though.  Fun definitely summed up last year.  Thank again to my clients for a wonderful year and for choosing me to document your family moments:).

Molson | Calgary Family Photographer12.21.12

So many of you have heard me talk about our Labrador Retriever, Molson, that I thought that I should share that we had to put him down last weekend.  He was 11 and a half and a HUGE part of our family.  He has had a rough year with the move to California as he was diagnosed with diabetes in January and then losing his eyesight as a result.  His mobility from early onset of arthritis continued to deteriorate making quality of life for him diminish.

Molson was our first baby and began our parental responsibility.  He was my first real model as I learned my film SLR camera.  He brought absolute joy to our house from the moment we brought him home…yes, he brought some frustration as well but then what good things don’t:).  He was an odd puppy and that was what was so endearing about him.  Here are just a few of his quirks:

- He was the puppy sitting behind the fan that was blowing on one of the hottest days in July when we first met him (all of the rest of the dogs and puppies were in front of the fan).  However, he was the dog who had the bed (that was placed behind the fan) all to himself…loving the comforts right from the beginning.

- He went on to be one of the worst/smartest retrievers at the dog park…he would head out to fetch with the other dogs but then would wait and snatch the toy from the dog that actually retrieved it and return for the treat.

- His love for bananas had him almost tackling a VERY pregnant women at the dog park once.

- He loved to lay in the sun…he loved even more when we got air conditioning in the house and he could lay by the vent of cool air with his head still in the sun.

- He was so good with the children…tolerated my son as a toddler bouncing on his back and he LOVED “clean up” after EVERY meal at the hands of the little one:)

He (and my children) have brought the most belly laughs that I have ever had in my life.  Our household will not be the same without this pooch but was so much fuller because of him (questionable grammar:).  I don’t think that it will be long before we have another 4 legged family member…and no, it will not be a lizard much to our son’s dismay!

Here are a few pictures of our pooch.  Sorry some are snaps of prints (we have been going through bins of pictures this week:).

Availability | Calgary Family Photography10.21.12

Wow, how are we only a couple of months away from Christmas?!?!  This year has flown!  I will be back in Calgary a few more times before the end of the year and thought that I would update everyone on what is remaining as far as sessions for the year.  I still have a few sessions available, as does Jess.  In addition, Jess will be shooting mini sessions in the studio.

I have the following dates and times for studio or location:

- Saturday, October 27th late afternoon – I have had a client reschedule leaving this time open…I understand that it is last minute but know that sometimes works:)

- Friday, November 16th – morning

- Saturday, November 17th – morning

- Sunday, November 18th – morning

- December 7th – a morning and an afternoon session

- December 9th – a morning session

Jess still has flexibility in her schedule as well as she is offering mini sessions in the studio this year.  These mini sessions are perfect if you just need a few shots for Christmas cards, gifts or you do not want to invest in a full session.  Please see the details and contact the studio if you are interested.

Gorgeous fall | Calgary Family Photographer10.02.12

I lucked out with some STUNNING weather and scenery while I was back shooting over the last couple of weeks.  It was great to get to enjoy it with this family.  I have seen them a number of times since their first maternity session.  We had a great time playing in the leaves, using our imaginations, playing with the dog and capturing some pictures along the way.  The first picture was the apres-leaf-throwing picture…I got the ones before too but loved this as you get to see everyone’s reaction to me being covered in leaves:)  I had lots of family dogs join us this year – love that!  Watching the little boy and his dog interact was so cute:).  Great to see you guys again!
