These parents admitted early in the session that they don’t take a lot of pictures so I knew that I would need to cover a bunch of stuff.  In addition to the portrait shots, I wanted to make sure I got a bunch of shots that were fun for this age.  So we played…and then a little tumble resulted with a snuggle.  Although that is never a shot I plan for, it is always a favourite from a session.  It was great to see you C Family!

Free spirit | Calgary Family Photographer09.06.13

I am excited to share this session as it is the session of a former boss of mine when I was an accountant.  I don’t like to date us but amazingly that was about 12 years ago!  Wow!  I was so honoured for her to choose me to capture her family.  I have always known this was the right change for me but it is so amazing for others to think so too:).

Now…the title comes from the little one.  I am a HUGE fan of a free spirit and she definitely is one.  Sometimes this can make it a bit more difficult for me to capture…particularly the way that I had in my head before the session.  However, this just involves switching things up a bit and getting something more real than I envisioned.  The picture of the kids in the grass is just that.  I had them lying there (and have them close their eyes until the last minute cuz otherwise we will get a squinty picture) and then the little one decided that she needed a moustache and well, I like it.  I like the after result too (which I included at the end) but always prefer a picture with a story.

Thank you J and S for trusting me with your family pictures.  It was so great working with your family!

Thank you | Calgary Family Photographer08.27.13

At the end of this session, this mom said, “thank you so much for continuing to come back”.  My response, “Thank you, I can’t even imagine not getting to see (insert her son’s name here) grow every year…”.  I did not begin a business 9 years ago (revolving around something I adore doing) to walk away from it and not be able to see your family’s continue to grow and develop.  This business is my pride and joy (of course, beyond my children) and the relationships that I have with my clients, extremely important to me.  I have built this and I am damn proud of it.  It is the little bit of me that I get to share. It is also the creative outlet for me.  Yes, I still have the accountant in me and have to make the numbers work too but I will cut expenses in other areas to ensure that I can continue to deliver what I started with you.  So THANK YOU for continuing to trust me with your family memories.  Of course, a thank you to my husband, who holds down the fort when I am away…for the most part…seems the kids did not bathe while I was away for 3 days this past time:).  Will have to add it to the list next time.

Struck me | Calgary Family Photographer08.26.13

As I was choosing favourites from this session, I was struck by these three non-smiling pictures.  Of course, I chose a bazillion smiling ones too but I always like to have a couple that are not.  We had a ton of fun at this session so promise to share more of those…however, today these caught my eye.
