A weekend scene06.01.17

As I mentioned, I have loved doing these little films and plan to capture as much as I can over the remaining time that we have in California of all the fun things that we like to do. It is pool season again (yes, there is a season without the pool here as it is too expensive to heat it and my kids won’t get in) so there will be quite a bit of video involving the pool. The water was one of my favourite places to be growing up and am so glad that my kids are getting that too…with a different spin (I grew up swimming in mountain runoff or a murky, green lake;). We will definitely miss this when we leave but are so grateful to have had the opportunity for this dream to even be a reality for a bit! Here is a scene from a water fight that took place last weekend…a much needed break from going through and beginning to pack and downsize.

I will get back to sharing some client work as well as I have been working on some neat projects:).

Video portrait05.31.17

My assignment for this past week was a video portrait. Which I found to be awesome! As a mom of older children, it has gotten more and more difficult over the years to get them to “model” for me. First of all, they don’t find it fun…it is essentially just more nagging from me:). And typically, once I get started taking pictures, I don’t want to stop (clients will understand this about me:). So video has been a great way for me to capture them and what they are doing right now. I kept this film to 15 seconds so I did not have to take too much of their time with it:).  The kids have enjoyed showing me their tricks and love to be able to watch these back themselves. I also love that it highlights some of the things about them at this time in their lives that would not necessarily translate well through a still portrait. My son loves soccer and loves to practice his ball skills. I love being able to capture the motion as well as his facial expressions. I also had to capture his current “hair swoop” that he does right now but again this would not have come across properly in a photo. I am hoping to incorporate these into client session this fall so let me know if it is something that interests you.

Personal project – video adventures05.30.17

As I mentioned in the previous video, I will be taking a lot of video over the next little while and sharing our adventures of our last few months in California. I have decided to do a course at the same time as the timing syncs up well, offers new ways of doing things and forces me to get these videos done as homework:). The course I am taking is through Xanthe Berkley.

Here is the video “scenes from the weekend” that I did for the first assignment (due last monday…the 22nd)…I am already behind sharing here but will catch up this week with a few posts:). I have also been working on some brand films for clients and will be sharing those here as well. I have thoroughly enjoyed telling stories with video both personal and for businesses.

Lifestream01.10.17

2016 brought some new and amazing opportunities. Not only did I get to watch a number of existing clients grow but I also got to meet new clients and delve into new opportunities. It was a really exciting year with my brand film business growing and taking shape and then with an opportunity arising through the end of the year to work on a new marketing campaign for Lifestream. The opportunity came from a picture that I had shot of one of their blood recipients a few years ago highlighting the spirit of an amazing recipient. I was given the task of highlighting the “life” in each of the recipients – the life they are thankful for due to your generous donations! It was an amazing opportunity and it has been so fantastic to work with such a great organization and learn the success stories of these recipients (from burn victims to accident victims to heart transplant babies) and what blood donation can do to save a life. Here are just a few of the images that were captured…a huge thank you to all of you that donate blood and allow for these lives to thrive!!
