New Referral Program07.05.17

Hi Everyone!

I am excited to be moving home soon! I am back taking clients in Calgary as of August 11th. August, September and October are starting to get booked up so if you are considering pictures, please let me know soon.

I would also appreciate, if you could please forward my name to friends and family. I am looking forward to getting back to work and being able to easily accommodate new clients. In conjunction with my move, I have decided to change up my referral program and make it a bit sweeter for you…especially since word of mouth has always been how my business has grown. I would like to thank you with $200 credit towards your next session for each client that you refer (and completes a session) to Tot Shots or Jody Boryski Photography (for a small business brand film) in Calgary.

As well as family photography, I am also pursuing a new venture that I started working on in California creating brand films. I have set up a business that is helping entrepreneurs or charities share their stories to attract their ideal client or donor through video. I have worked with a pilates studio, organic farmers, boutique letterpress printers, jewelers, chiropractors, after-school programs, art and a culinary tour company…the possibilities for these films are endless. As a small business that has been successful due to amazing clients like you, I want to be able to help other local businesses connect with their best clients. Again I would appreciate you passing my name on to your favourite small businesses or charities. I will be offering the same referral bonus of $200 for a successful completion of one of these films that you have referred.

Family photography work will still be under Tot Shots and I have set up a new website for the brand films and commercial work – http://www.jodyboryski.com.

A weekend scene06.01.17

As I mentioned, I have loved doing these little films and plan to capture as much as I can over the remaining time that we have in California of all the fun things that we like to do. It is pool season again (yes, there is a season without the pool here as it is too expensive to heat it and my kids won’t get in) so there will be quite a bit of video involving the pool. The water was one of my favourite places to be growing up and am so glad that my kids are getting that too…with a different spin (I grew up swimming in mountain runoff or a murky, green lake;). We will definitely miss this when we leave but are so grateful to have had the opportunity for this dream to even be a reality for a bit! Here is a scene from a water fight that took place last weekend…a much needed break from going through and beginning to pack and downsize.

I will get back to sharing some client work as well as I have been working on some neat projects:).

Video portrait05.31.17

My assignment for this past week was a video portrait. Which I found to be awesome! As a mom of older children, it has gotten more and more difficult over the years to get them to “model” for me. First of all, they don’t find it fun…it is essentially just more nagging from me:). And typically, once I get started taking pictures, I don’t want to stop (clients will understand this about me:). So video has been a great way for me to capture them and what they are doing right now. I kept this film to 15 seconds so I did not have to take too much of their time with it:).  The kids have enjoyed showing me their tricks and love to be able to watch these back themselves. I also love that it highlights some of the things about them at this time in their lives that would not necessarily translate well through a still portrait. My son loves soccer and loves to practice his ball skills. I love being able to capture the motion as well as his facial expressions. I also had to capture his current “hair swoop” that he does right now but again this would not have come across properly in a photo. I am hoping to incorporate these into client session this fall so let me know if it is something that interests you.

Personal project – video adventures05.30.17

As I mentioned in the previous video, I will be taking a lot of video over the next little while and sharing our adventures of our last few months in California. I have decided to do a course at the same time as the timing syncs up well, offers new ways of doing things and forces me to get these videos done as homework:). The course I am taking is through Xanthe Berkley.

Here is the video “scenes from the weekend” that I did for the first assignment (due last monday…the 22nd)…I am already behind sharing here but will catch up this week with a few posts:). I have also been working on some brand films for clients and will be sharing those here as well. I have thoroughly enjoyed telling stories with video both personal and for businesses.
