Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation | Calgary Children's Photographer02.24.12

After completing the images for gala, I then received a call from the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation to commission Tot Shots for an important media event that week.  Trican Well Services was donating $5,000,000 to the foundation (the largest gift ever received by the Oncology department) as well as the doctor (and his team) that had been showcased at the Gala had received the world first clinical trial for a new treatment for children with severe intestinal failure.  HUGE day at the hospital and I was so proud to get to help.  With this being two weeks before we were to move, it was a little tight so I did the shoot and Jess edited the images for me.  I do have to say that the team at the foundation is an amazing group.  They truly put their hearts into their jobs.  I was a bit concerned when I started tearing up, during one of the mom’s speeches at the press conference, that I was not being very professional.  I apologized after only to have them say that they have been told that if these things don’t move you, then you should not be here.  We are SOOOOO fortunate to have such a wonderful facility and their team right here in Calgary.  I was so truly honoured to be able to capture the images for them.

Candy Cane Gala | Calgary Photographer02.22.12

Early last year I was honoured to be asked by one of my clients to shoot pictures at the Alberta Children’s Hospital Candy Cane gala in December.  I do not typically shoot events like this as I am not equipped with a lot of portal flash equipment so I was a little leery.  When she went on to say how she knew I would capture the little ones faces and their excitement at this event I was sold.  Yes, the children get to attend this gala.  HOW FUN!  I then met with organizing committee at the foundation, only to learn that this was a huge event with 1300 people and with a goal of raising $750,000…yikes!  I needed to recruit – Jess and I would not be enough:)  So I passed along names of a couple of amazing event and wedding photographers Bill Marsh and Mark Wikkerink and was thrilled when they both generously donated their time as well.  It was an AMAZING event and the foundation raised almost $900,000 this year!  A wonderful evening for the children, their parents and the foundation.  I highly recommend it as a charitable event – it was a spectacular event focussed on fun for the children, in support of an amazing resource we have in Calgary. Here are a few of our images from the evening:)

Pedalheads | Calgary Children's Photographer08.11.10

Share/Save/Bookmark
I recently did a shoot for Pedalheads bike camps.  If you follow my blog you know how impressed I was with this company last year.  My son attended one of their camps last year and had an absolute blast (not to mention learned a ton of balance and skill on his bike).  We bike a lot as a family so it is so nice that he has the confidence and skill on his bike to join us for long rides.  This year I received a note from Pedalheads about doing commercial work for them and it worked out that the shoots could be done the same week that I had both of my children enrolled in the camp.  This was a really awesome perk for me to be there at the same time as my children.  Once again I was extremely impressed with this organization.  Their staff and instructors are fantastic with the children.  The programs are well organized.  It was so fun for me to witness/capture the determination, delight and pride on the children’s faces as they gained the confidence on their bikes.  So here are a few of the pictures from the shoot (and a couple of extra from the last day of my own children on the slip n’slide).
