Carried away06.23.14

This shoot came about from a vision of an image I wanted to add to my commercial website…well, then I started to make a plan and, well, got carried away.  I always do.  It turned into capturing childhood activities to also being used as potential gifts (shhhh, don’t tell dad if you know him:).  It was one of the most fun shoots that I have had…and I always have fun!  I think that the best part was really just entering these girls world for a bit.  It was a ton of fun.  By the end, we were all jumping through the sprinkler (ok, mom was not as she was not feeling well at all).  J, thank you so much for pushing through…hopefully I at least wore the girls out so you could have a nap:).

Creative itch04.25.14

This time of year always brings about a bit of a creative itch…I think that it is heightened by the fact that I am not working full-time right now.  I am not very good at not working full-time as I have always had a job or 2 from the time that I was 13.  I like to work…it is just in me to work…especially at a job that I adore.  This extra time as a creative always leaves me with pages and pages in my notebook of things that I would like to do or try…then busy season hits or I talk myself out of them.  Well, it is time to get out there and do it.

After a long run (my best and most cohesive planning occurs on my runs), I came home and promptly sent a note to this client to see if I they would allow me to take over their house and use their adorable children as models for my idea.  I have had this concept shoot in my mind since I stopped by their new house to work on art last summer.  The amazing architectural features in their place coupled with their adorable models has had my mind spinning for over 6 months:)  Maybe I have been reading too many Parents magazines or something too:)  When I was visiting, I was fully enamored with their little one making a snack for herself, cheerios and milk being sent everywhere and the theme of “Joyful Chaos” came to mind.  I tend to be too much a control freak and a little too Type A in my own house sometimes so I thoroughly enjoy seeing when parents are awesomely laid back…it inspires me to be moreso.

The images for this shoot will be added to a commercial photography website that I am in the process of launching specializing in children.  It is just an extension of things that I have always done (Cherry Four, Pedalheads, Sportball, Alberta Children’s Hospital,…) but I have decided to split it off to a separate website as the markets are different.  Amazingly enough…when you put stuff out there things start to happen.  I was asked to do a shoot for a Lifestream campaign that I completed this week.  I will share more as I have things up and running.

I know Mom and Dad here have been waiting patiently for a sneak peek, so on to the images.  Thank you so much M family for allowing me to use your gorgeous home and models.  And the pillow shot…yep, got that one in the face so had to include:)calgary family photographercalgary family photographercalgary family photographercalgary family photographercalgary family photographercalgary family photographercalgary family photographercalgary family photographercalgary family photographercalgary family photographer

Supporting the CIBC Run for the Cure | Calgary Photography07.18.13

As I mentioned a few months ago, I will not be setting up a Tot Shots team for the CIBC Run for the Cure in Calgary this year:(.  I could not be away for 3 weekends in a row from my children so the timing was not going to work this year.  It is more difficult to run a team (and do the best job possible) from afar so it is one of the things that I had to let go of this year.  It does not mean though that I will not be running that day cuz I definitely will be!!  Also, I will be supporting in other ways that I can.  I told Steph, the survivor on our team, that I would do marketing pictures for whatever team she decided to start or be a part of.  She decided to join forces with a few of her good friends, fellow survivors and support system to form the team “Breast Friends Forever”.  The inspiration of strength, courage and friendship that I witnessed from this shoot and working with these girls together was fantastic.  They are truly amazing and are going on to share their stories in a number of different ways to inspire women.  Steph, Jenn and Heather, thank you for letting me capture some of the images of support and strength for you.  Jenn has written some of each of their stories on the the CIBC website here.

If you have allocated money to support me this year, I would love if you would support them instead.  Thank you to everyone that has supported me in the past.

Just breathe | Calgary/California Photographer05.24.13

I got the opportunity to work with a bunch of women last weekend that I am HUGELY inspired by.  I will share more from the shoot but am having a tough time putting into words my thoughts.  So for now, I am just going to heed some advice.

Jenn will be doing a lot of this as she participates in the Calgary Marathon this weekend…a young mom, a wife, a breast cancer survivor, a friend, an advocate,…  She has been sharing her journey here http://www.calgarymarathon.com/blog.html.  Good luck Jenn!  You will do amazing!

3 Generations | Calgary Family Photographer05.24.12

I think that these sessions that span generations are so important. I don’t have formal pictures of my grandma, my mum, me and my children but I do have a snapshot. I am thankful for that as it is what I have. When this client purchased a gift certificate for her mom at Christmas, I was so excited. I have gotten to do a few of these types of sessions and I thoroughly enjoy them. Not only do I get to see these gorgeous grandmas but I get to see their relationship with their grandchildren and children. It was even more special as this was Mother’s Day weekend and what a great way to celebrate:) Ladies you look gorgeous, thank you for letting me capture this for you!
