Introducing a couple of additions…|Calgary Children's Photographer01.08.10

I have added a couple of pieces of equipment to the Tot Shots family. I am so excited!! It has been awhile since I upgraded my camera and there are a ton of amazing camera bodies out there that I have been drooling over. Well the time finally came!!! So here is an introduction to the D700 and a new fixed 105mm! My little one helped me test it out today so that I could be ready for this weekend. One of the reasons that wanted this model in particular was its ability at higher ISOs. I had to shoot a few natural light images at an ISO of 800. It is amazing…and I know that it can to better based on the reviews. I am so looking forward to getting outside with it this weekend!

The detail that the new lens can pick up is amazing. I can’t even wait to capture some newborn details over the next little while!

Have a great weekend!

Thank you and Happy New Year | Calgary Photographer12.31.09

I can’t even believe that we are nearing the end of another year. 2009 was a great year with some awesome personal and business successes. I would like to thank all of the friends, family and clients, who have made 2009 fantastic. I am so looking forward to what 2010 will bring. New year…new decade.

It was so nice after an extremely busy fall/Christmas season to have a bit of downtime with my family. We had my Dad join us for the days over Christmas and participate in some traditions that we have been done in our house over the last few years. Gingerbread house decorating…it seems that this tradition did actually require all of the professionals that we had last year…the structural integrity was completely off with the attempt of the two engineers that we had this year…thankfully neither are practicing in this area anymore;).

Then it was time to work some turkey off with a couple days of sledding! FUN!

Oh, and the last picture…I had to include one of myself. I came across this as I was starting to clean up my hard drive. This was shot as I was playing with the fish-eye that I rented for the Cherry Four shoot this summer. And the face…well, if you follow my blog, this is where my children get this one from!

Here is to sending off 2009 and welcoming 2010! Have a happy and healthy 2010!

Happy 1st Birthday & Merry Christmas| Calgary Children's Photographer12.24.09

I had to post one more session before Christmas as these are this little one’s 1st birthday pictures. I won’t have the gallery out before Christmas (despite my intentions) but I had to post some pictures for the special occasion. As a fellow Christmas baby, I understand the importance of having our birthdays recognized during a busy time of year. I have always been asked if I like having my birthday around Christmas and I have always responded that I love it. My mum (and now all of the rest of the people in my life) have always made it special. So Happy Birthday December babies and Merry Christmas everyone…it is just fine to combine it!

Oh and the pettiskirt…I could not resist. I saw them when I went in to pick up my children’s “Christmas” outfits (I use this term loosely as I am fairly casual) at Child at Heart. I was going to use the skirt under my daughter’s dress, however, she would not put it on – she is as girly as me. So, it has ended up as a prop. I know, I have said that I am against props but there is something about a gorgeous pettiskirt. I have ended up with a black one as well as this raspberry one so there will definitely be a few more shots in the future.  Actually I know exactly who I will be shooting next with these!

Wall Art | Calgary Photographer12.23.09

One of the projects that I have had on the go for awhile was getting images up of ideas for wall art as this area has become a big part of my business.  I work with a professional framer and canvas supplier.  I have created a section on my website under the “gallery” section called “wall art” that illustrates some art pieces and how they can be arranged. This should help to give you an idea of sizing and display of canvas and frames.

Here is one of the images and there are a bunch more here on the website.

Favourites! | Calgary Portrait Photographer12.01.09

This is one of my favourite families to photograph. I have been honoured to be “their” photographer for four years and they have graced my blog and website many times! This session the children were wired – I don’t know if it was the fact that they were heading out to Lake Louise after, the buckwheat pasta they had for lunch or that they are really comfortable with me now;). All I know is this is absolutely how I picture a family session going on with my family. And it made me realize how much I want to capture the gong show. This will definitely be something I get on as soon I get everyone healthy in my house!

So despite the fact that the session felt fairly chaotic (particularly for the dad), we got AWESOME shots that showed a lot of energy. I LOVE that! L, enjoy your sneak peek! Hope you had a great weekend!
