Personal project – video adventures05.30.17

As I mentioned in the previous video, I will be taking a lot of video over the next little while and sharing our adventures of our last few months in California. I have decided to do a course at the same time as the timing syncs up well, offers new ways of doing things and forces me to get these videos done as homework:). The course I am taking is through Xanthe Berkley.

Here is the video “scenes from the weekend” that I did for the first assignment (due last monday…the 22nd)…I am already behind sharing here but will catch up this week with a few posts:). I have also been working on some brand films for clients and will be sharing those here as well. I have thoroughly enjoyed telling stories with video both personal and for businesses.

Pilates05.28.15

I have had the pleasure of working with this mom and her family for many years. Andrea been a pilates coach and instructor for a couple of years and needed someone to take some pictures for her website. I have not done pilates yet but have always been intrigued by it as it looks like it would be right up my alley for a fitness routine – strength training, core work and balance building.

I jumped at the chance to help her as I really wanted to see the routine from her. She is detailed and her posture is always amazing so I was pretty certain that she would be an amazing instructor. She did not disappoint – even though we were taking “posed” shots and not going through a work out she walked through it like it was a routine. Describing form and positions for maximum benefit and to avoid injury. I LOVE that!! I have worked out for over 20 years and form has always been what I have noticed through various workouts and instructors. I have left yoga classes where it was downright dangerous. It is imperative to know the ramifications of specific moves and the exact way to do it so that you do avoid injury – particularly as you start to get older in your vintage as some of us are:).

If you are into pilates or are thinking of getting into it, I highly recommend giving Andrea a call.  Her website link is http://www.andreapilates.com/home.html.

Cherry Four | Calgary Children's Photographer and Boutique05.23.12

As a small business owner I have always had great respect for companies that offer fantastic, professional advice and service.  I am very fortunate to get to work with one such company in Calgary – Cherry Four (a children’s boutique in Kensington).  If you do not already know Cherry Four and Fev, you need to:)  Fev has owned and operated Cherry Four since 2001, first with the location in Inglewood now relocated to Kensington.  Fev and her staff’s level of client care goes above and beyond.  I am not only a business acquaintance but also a happy customer.  I was in her shop to work on some art for her on my last trip and needed a gift for a friend’s son.  I knew she would have the perfect ideas and so I got something from her and brought it the other way across the border – I might be one of the only shoppers that takes things that way over the border:)

While I was there Fev presented me with a couple of things, an awesome new Fat Boy bean bag ottoman…in Tot Shots blue and she had a gorgeous little diaper cover for me.  She had remembered that I had asked about diaper covers during one of our conversations and that I could not find anything different and that I really liked online.  Fev had exactly what I was looking for made for me!  It was awesome – I used it the next day at a baby shoot I had.  Fev’s ability to hear people and figure out what they need is amazing and I am sure is one of the main reasons that she has had one of the longest running children’s boutiques in Calgary and is as successful as she is.  Her down-to-earth and friendly approach to business is so completely inspiring to this business owner and customer of hers!  Here is a shot of the first model to use it – okay, so the diaper cover is in the background…the expression is awesome:)

Happy New Year!! | Calgary Family Photographer01.01.11

Share/Save/Bookmark
Wow the last few weeks have flown by! I have not been blogging for a few weeks as I was head down finishing Christmas orders, then focusing on getting my family ready for Christmas, enjoying a few days off and then right back at it.  We had a great Christmas with a bunch of family in town.  I hope that you and your families had an equally awesome Christmas.

I realized that it had been over a year and a half since I had last updated the images on my website so I made it a priority a few days ago to update them. It seemed fitting as it also was time to go back and reflect on 2010. It was a fantastic year for me personally and professionally. It was really fun to go back through the year in pictures. I am really proud of the work that I did this year both from an artistic and business perspective. I felt that I stepped out and challenged myself creatively as well as put some business processes in place that continued to improve the customer experience. And I am happy to say that this pride is backed up by the customer feedback that I received so thank you;) Another “improvement” that I made this year and am very proud of, is my work/life balance.  Much of this has been from necessity with the number of activities that my family was involved in this year but I feel that everyone and everything got an “even” amount of my focus.

I have not posted any pictures in this post as I hope that you will peruse my new galleries on my website HERE. I have set it up a bit differently and separated it into studio and location galleries. I have also added a feature presentation from one of my “day in a life” sessions. I chose a bunch of pictures from one of these sessions in order to tell the story.

The wall art gallery has not yet been updated but I PROMISE to have some of the pictures of art that I have done this year post in there soon.

I am so excited for 2011. I have a number of client wall art projects going on in the first part of the year, lots of amazing shoots, the WPPI trade show in Las Vegas in February and then plans are beginning for a few vacation “day in a life” sessions this summer. It is going to be a fantastic year and I am so ready to get it started!

Thank you to all of my clients for a great year with you! As you know, it is my absolute pleasure working with you and your families and capturing your memories! I hope that all of you have an amazing 2011!

Food and Willpower |Calgary Photographer06.03.10

Barb of Love2Eat recently posted a segment from my social series last year where she was speaking about food – whole foods in particular. This segment was on our relationship (specific to women) with food and the term willpower. Click here and you will be redirected to the video on YouTube.

I think that Barb is fantastic. Her focus on eating to nourish and energize our bodies is something that I feel is extremely important. Although food and healthy food has always been extremely important to me it is even more important as I put food on the table for my family (approximately 6 times a day). I want my children to go to school with as much energy as they can to learn but I also need to be able to do this efficiently. Barb’s classes have offered a lot of solutions for my family (and I tweet about the yummy things that we are eating a lot…the recipes are typically from Barb).
