A little more sunshine from last weekend’s sessions. These girls were a pleasure to shoot. I have shot the whole family in the past but this time got the opportunity to update the girls portraits. They are so well-behaved and adorable! Love their beautiful, colourful outfits! I was so happy to hear their mom had gone out to purchase a DSLR after my last social series so that she can start to really capture all of the girls’ events (without the delay of a point and shoot).

June has been incredibly busy and I promise to try to share as many sessions as I can but I am also trying to get as much volunteering in at my son’s school as I can. In addition to 4 nights a week of their soccer (and a couple nights a week minimum of my own)…needless to say a bit busy. I am looking forward to July and the children’s schedules slowing down…I think they are too;)

This is the third time that I have gotten to photograph this little girl. The pictures were gifts for grandparents for Christmas. That is really all grandparents want, isn’t it? She has typically been quite shy at the sessions but this time she came in the door talking up a storm.

As I mentioned in my previous post, Jess and I were trying some different techniques on images from a session. This was that session. I don’t use a lot of effects on my images as I feel my style is real.simple.clean.fun. This is also the reason that I don’t use a lot of props. I think that everyone is uniquely gorgeous and I don’t want to distract with anything. However, as I was going through the images from this session, I thought the little girl had a very vintage doll look to her and thought that we needed to try something on the images. Jess was here while I was editing so I asked her opinion…well, it turned into a little try this, oh, what about this,… Well, it was a ton of fun and a great learning experience. Photoshop is such an amazing piece of software and there are so many fun things that you can do (in so many different ways).

This is a client that I have shot a few times but have never had the pleasure of shooting the whole family together. It was so nice. The children are adorable together and the family about to welcome a new member early next year. S, it was great to see you again and meet D. I will have your gallery up soon.

We finally meet | Calgary Family Photographer

So it seems that this new client was actually a large contributor to the beginning of my business almost 5 years ago. I ask each of my client’s who has referred them (as I have a Referral Bonus in place) and one client came to me four years ago without me knowing the person who referred them. That client then went on to refer me to many of her friends who then in turn referred me again. Anyway, when my family was out at a u-pick farm in the summer we waited in line behind a lady. The line up was quite long so we got an opportunity to talk quite extensively and we came to realize that we had met years ago in a UPS store as I was picking up my first set of business cards and she had taken a card at that time. Life had gotten away (as it does) and she had never come for pictures however, she had passed my name on to her friends. Well that client had gone on to spread the word. And that original client is scheduled to come later today (using a referral bonus). I do want to thank all of my “referrers”.

So beyond how this client found me I have to talk about how amazing they were to shoot. Her older son is one of the most intelligent, well-behaved and creative little guys that I have met! I learned about rockets, received pictures from him to decorate my fridge in the studio and thoroughly enjoyed working with him. So to top this story off, dad works from home as a graphic designer and stay-at-home dad and he truly is the baby whisperer! It was so neat to watch a dad that was so comfortable with his children. K and J, it was an ABSOLUTE pleasure to finally meet you!

So the little guy asked if he could take a picture at the end. The picture on the right is his shot of his dad and brother. He is a natural!

This is the second year that I have had the pleasure of working with this family. They are a dream shoot…look at their gorgeous dark features. The girls are not only gorgeous but so well-behaved. I am so used to the energy of a boy (and this energy even seems to wear off on my daughter too) so it is such a pleasure to work with two little girls. Don’t get me wrong…I like a lot of energy…you may have noticed I like to be busy myself! However, it is nice to slow down and capture the relationship of sisters. J & M it was great to see you again!

Overwhelming admiration | Calgary Family Photographer

I have overwhelming amounts of respect and admiration for this family! They have been presented with obstacle after obstacle and they still continue to fight and maintain a positive energy. Their son has a rare form of dwarfism and continually faces life-threatening circumstances (his story is described on their website www.ourlittlemiracle.info). They are one of the most inspiring families that I have ever had the pleasure of working with and I am so honoured to have the opportunity to help them tell their story through pictures. This mother’s devotion, love, patience and strength is so completely inspirational! Unfortunately dad was not able to make it to the session but we will be sure to have them all back soon for a family update!

Here is another one of my Watch Me Grow babies! This little guy is now 4 months old and cute as can be! I love how they are intrigued by their hands, feet and dad’s laugh. It is such a fun age to work with. He has been dealing with some health issues so hopefully he will continue to be a little fighter! R & R more soon!

Milestones | Calgary Children’s Photographer

I have had the pleasure of shooting this family through many, many milestones! This is one of my girlfriends and her children…I have watched her almost 7 year old from the time she was a baby. I was still shooting film when E was born and I was just doing photography as a hobby. It is amazing how quickly everything changes. E is now almost 7 and is just getting adult teeth, her sister A is just loosing her first teeth and their younger brother, E, is just turning 2 (and to continue the teeth theme…probably working on some molars).

I do apologize that I am so far behind with everything…that is all changing this week. More sneak peeks to come!

You will notice that A’s tooth loss was recent as she is still sticking her tongue through her teeth as she shows me her highland fling.

Big smooch for mom!

We could not miss the opportunity to get outside and take a few with the leaves! Glad we did not as they have been flying off the trees this week!

A little Hannah Montana…still not something I am very familiar with…it is still all about cars in our house.

9 days old | Calgary Newborn Photographer

As promised, here are a few pictures from one of the several newborns that I have shot over the last week. This session was a bit of a treat. It is rare that I get the opportunity to shoot newborns with just their mom and not the whole family. Now don’t get me wrong. I love to have the whole family there and to capture the new addition to the family. This was nice though as the new baby got the attention and his relationship with his mom. We will get the chance to capture the new family unit at some time as well but the focus on the little one was really nice. Oh, and for the record…the girls still got to be “involved”…they are the ones that styled his hair. And as you can see…I liked it!

I had to include this picture of this little guy playing with the back of his head. My son does the same thing…yep, still does…ever since he was this small! Love it!
