I have had the opportunity to capture this mother and son’s relationship each year. The little guy definitely tested his mom’s patience this year (as only a 3 year old can) but we still managed to capture some great shots of them. We are going to do an outdoor session this year so he can run.

You may remember this client from their first Watch Me Grow year…well, they are back for round #2. This family is one of the most fun families to shoot. They have so much love for each other and have so much fun together. The evidence is in the pictures. K and N, I am so looking forward to the next year and to meeting your new little one!

As you will note there was a bit of a tongue theme to this session…it is so typical for the little guy’s to have their tongues sticking out a lot…whether they are concentrating to being shy. Well we mentioned this and it turned into the theme for the session. Might as well run with it;)

Family Fall Fun | Calgary Family Photographer

Fall has been a bit short in Calgary this year with the weather being all over the place…thank goodness we decided to move this session up a week to make sure that we captured the fall colours. At the time my thinking was to avoid a big wind storm that would take all the leaves…little did I know we were going to end up with snow! Hopefully it will not last long and we can squeeze in a bit more fall.

This family is a ton of fun. I have had the opportunity to shoot them a few times. We had not done an outdoor session yet and I am glad that we had the chance this year. It was a great way to capture this active family and include their lab. Thank you for the bushwhacking adventure guys!

Gorgeous Newborns | Calgary Newborn Photographer

I have had the most gorgeous newborns lately! Here is another new baby that I have the pleasure of taking pictures of last week. G and T, I apologize for the delaying in getting a sneak peek out to you. I should have the rest up soon!

On that note…I am finally beginning to get back on top of things…okay, just as I gear up for a heavy couple of months. This year I cannot take all of the credit though. I decided to bring in an assistant this season to help me get through this very busy time and still continue to offer you exceptional service. There has been an increase in demand for sessions as well as for wall art. So when the opportunity arose a few weeks ago to hire this girl, I jumped at the chance. It has taken me a long time to get to this point of letting go a bit (I am sure this is a common woman thing) in addition to finding the perfect person. Jess will be helping me with some of the back office work, including album design (yes, this has been a new addition to my product line as well), Christmas cards and wall art mock ups. Jess has a degree in Photography from ACAD and thus far has been proving to be an awesome addition! I will get pictures of the new products and designs out soon.

Love the perspective over mom’s shoulder. We spend a lot of time looking at our little ones like this!

We did it! | Calgary Photographer

I am so excited to say that “We did it!”. Yesterday was the CIBC Run for the Cure that Team Tot Shots participated in. It was amazing! This is the first year that I was emotionally able to get involved with this event. My cousin has participated in my mum’s honour for the past 7 years and I now fully understand why she wanted me to get involved. I always thought that it would be super sad – in too much of a “public sadness kind of way”(in addition to the fact that I was not a runner and did not see myself being able to even get through that part). It was an emotional day…it is difficult to see people running for their moms, daughters, aunts, sisters, friends, themselves…, but it also amazing to see how many people were there to support each other because of this common link. I am so incredibly thankful for the support that I had in getting through this personal challenge. I am so glad that my cousin allowed me to organize this year as it did give me something to work on and not focus on the sadness part (until all was said and done yesterday).

I also want to thank all of our team’s sponsors…together we raised almost $5700 (so far…a few donations are still rolling in) which I feel is pretty impressive!

Here are a few images from the day…the weather did not cooperate to allow us to get a very “creative” team picture. I did run with my camera to attempt to capture some of “in the moment” pictures but it was brutally cold…so this is what I got. You get the idea…depsite the candidness of my shots. I then hosted the after party at the studio complete with these gorgeous cupcakes that one of my clients made! If you ever need a cake maker please let me know and I can pass her details on…she is fabulous!

Baby Boom | Calgary Newborn Photographer

Wow, is there a baby boom in Calgary? I have had a ton of newborn sessions lately! Here is another 9 day old newborn that I had the pleasure of working with last week! Mom is a labour and delivery nurse in Calgary so was COMPLETELY comfortable whipping the little guy in and out of poses! Dad was pretty comfortable too (although he does not work with babies – he does have a really cool job though). Q and C, it was an absolute pleasure working with you and I will have the rest of your gallery up ASAP.

Milestones | Calgary Children’s Photographer

I have had the pleasure of shooting this family through many, many milestones! This is one of my girlfriends and her children…I have watched her almost 7 year old from the time she was a baby. I was still shooting film when E was born and I was just doing photography as a hobby. It is amazing how quickly everything changes. E is now almost 7 and is just getting adult teeth, her sister A is just loosing her first teeth and their younger brother, E, is just turning 2 (and to continue the teeth theme…probably working on some molars).

I do apologize that I am so far behind with everything…that is all changing this week. More sneak peeks to come!

You will notice that A’s tooth loss was recent as she is still sticking her tongue through her teeth as she shows me her highland fling.

Big smooch for mom!

We could not miss the opportunity to get outside and take a few with the leaves! Glad we did not as they have been flying off the trees this week!

A little Hannah Montana…still not something I am very familiar with…it is still all about cars in our house.

Random | Calgary Photographer

Okay, this may turn into one of the most random posts ever. Sorry in advance – however, this is how this week has gone. It was an extremely busy week with a lot of things going on - coming into the final week and a half of preparation and raising money for the CIBC Run for the Cure and I needed to step up and start planning some sort of theme as team captain. And anyone who knows me knows I am not a “theme” kind of girl (as you can see from my pictures SIMPLE). Don’t get me wrong…I love to dress up! But coming up with outfits that are somewhat “cool” for 20 team members…a little more difficult. Anyway, that has been done but you will have to wait for the pictures.

Beyond the “fun” part of getting ready for the run, I also went through pictures of my mum to put together “Who are you running for?” buttons. Obviously difficult but I am so happy that I have these images. I had hired the talented Carmen Miller to capture some special moments of my family 5 years ago when we found out that my mum’s cancer had returned. These pictures and the ones that I captured myself are some of the most important things to me.

This week became that much more difficult when I learned of a client of mine passing away from cancer. I was so sad to hear that this disease had taken someone else so young. I was so truly honoured to get the opportunity to be able to capture some special times for this family just as Carmen did for me. My heart goes out to this family.

I then had another very eye-opening experience this week. I was asked to make a photography donation to “It’s a Wrap” Fashion Show put on at the Glencoe in support of the Inn from the Cold homeless shelter. It was not a charity that I was very familiar with as I tend to focus on women, children and cancer charities. I decided to participate in this silent auction when I learned how many women and children are staying at the shelter. When I dropped the gift certificate and art off to the shelter, I asked for a tour to learn a little more about their charity. It was nothing short of impressive. I give the staff there a lot of credit for running an amazing operation there – that relies heavily on donations – money and services. They currently need a new floor laid down, if you know of anyone.

The last part of my random post is that I got to watch my son participate in a run for Terry Fox today at his school and was so proud to see him participating and having fun as he learns about giving back. It has been quite a week and typically a Thursday would not be the end of the week around here however this weekend I will be spending time with my family, my mum’s parents and one of my cousins. I am very excited to end this week this way! I am going to follow this post up with a sneak peek but feel that this family deserves their own designated post.

9 days old | Calgary Newborn Photographer

As promised, here are a few pictures from one of the several newborns that I have shot over the last week. This session was a bit of a treat. It is rare that I get the opportunity to shoot newborns with just their mom and not the whole family. Now don’t get me wrong. I love to have the whole family there and to capture the new addition to the family. This was nice though as the new baby got the attention and his relationship with his mom. We will get the chance to capture the new family unit at some time as well but the focus on the little one was really nice. Oh, and for the record…the girls still got to be “involved”…they are the ones that styled his hair. And as you can see…I liked it!

I had to include this picture of this little guy playing with the back of his head. My son does the same thing…yep, still does…ever since he was this small! Love it!
