Was the song that mom was singing while dancing with her daughter…and the song that we were all singing by the end. The little one is almost 8 months…one of my favourite ages. The interaction at this age is so fun! Doesn’t she have the most gorgeous big eyes? R & J, it was great to meet you. I will have more out soon.

Now I have to apologize to the other families that I am jumping the queue by posting this family before a few others…I had to when I saw this look. This is a look that I know well! When N first came in for her maternity session she seemed a bit scared about having a baby (it could also have been that I was videotaping the session;)). This fear is something that I personally understand. When I was pregnant with my son I was PETRIFIED…not just scared! Anyone who knew me at this time knew that I did not have much of a maternal instinct in me. I was NEVER the one to hold the babies when girls came into the office on their maternity leaves. So needless to say this lack of maternal instinct had me a little scared. Well the picture below hit home to me as I was downloading these tonight from this afternoon’s session. This is exactly the way that I looked at my son. From the moment that I first saw him! This instantly found maternal instinct that was born with him was noticeable to everyone around me (and mentioned a lot). And this instinct now allows me to see and understand it in others…and is truly what made me realize this passion of capturing it. M & N, she is gorgeous. N, you look so relaxed as a new mom despite the lack of sleep and colic.

I’m back! I know…you did not know I was away. I was sneaky this time. Actually it was more of a case of not having time to blog before departing and although I took my laptop it spent most of my vacation closed! So nice! My family and I were in Mexico for the last couple of weeks! Fun…lot of stories…which I will share over the next little while. I am right back into the swing of things and already have a few sessions to share so those will be coming too. Here is just one of my little one though for now and her ADORABLE curls while we were away. More soon!

So I have been mentioning a few projects that I have been working on over the last little while and so many of them are starting to get completed. The logo was one thing that I wanted to freshen up after 5 years. It was exciting to roll that out last week and get some awesome feedback. Another project that I have been working on was a video of a photo experience with Tot Shots. It is a chance to see me, the studio and how a typical session works with me. I mentioned a few months ago, a lot of clients are wanting to do their research and meet with me to see the studio and get to know me. Of course, you are always welcome to come meet with me to ensure that I am the photographer for you but I know how busy we all are so thought that this might help.

I have to give Jess complete credit for putting it all together. Part of the reason that it has taken me so long to get this done was because it is hard to find the time to learn a new editing program/process and secondly I really prefer to be behind the camera! There are a few other things that I want to incorporate at some point but here is the first attempt…click HERE to link to the video section on my website.

I had been anxiously awaiting the session with these little ones as was their mom. She sent me a note letting me know that she was heading into hospital to have her daughters. Very exciting! We wanted to capture how small they were but the girls are pretty tiny and still struggling to keep their temperatures up and could not travel to the studio. So we did a short location session to get a few pictures of how tiny they were and to ensure that we got some images with a very proud grandma. I will be encouraging mom to come in for a follow up session in a few weeks when the girls are a little bit bigger. This is also so we can match the type of light that was used for the maternity session and the art pieces that have already been completed.

So this is the second shoot in Watch Me Grow number 2 for this family. The maternity pictures are here. As I mention every time they have hit my blog in the last couple of years, they are a ton of fun to shoot so I get a little out of control. My new tool is making it a little too easy to show that I overshoot. I admit it…I overshoot and I am okay with that! There are a couple of reason for this…first, I think that a session should tell a story so I include enough to do this. Secondly, we need to ensure that we cover each of the combinations. Thirdly, and in this case in particular, there are images that we are mimicking from the first session with their first son that will be coordinated on the wall. Oh, and then there is the fact that I had a new 105mm that I needed to use and the Olympics in on so we need to document this, oh and then there is I LOVE my job…I could go on and on to try to justify overshooting. So the big question that I get is, how do I choose? Well, I narrow down to my favourites for you as well.

K&N, it is ALWAYS a pleasure and I am looking forward to the rest of the year.

I am excited to announce a new look for Tot Shots. I have had the Tot Shots logo professional designed and am so excited to finally see it up. I love the new fresh, modern look of the new logo (and still keeping with some of the same elements from the last one).

I should finally have a few posts up this week about a few things that I have been eluding to. Exciting week!

Happy Family Day…early | Calgary Family Photographer

So this post is a little early but I have a lot going on over the next couple of days…a couple of the things that I have been eluding to. I will explain them soon I promise!

I, of course, have to share a few of my children from a trip to the Calgary Zoo last weekend. The children and I made a trip to the zoo to see the new interactive dinosaurs and to take a few pictures of the frost (which has been gorgeous this year!). As you will see the dinosaur exhibit did not go over well. Oh well, a little trip to visit the hippos and the play area turned things around.

Excitement | Calgary Maternity Photographer

This is the sister of a good friend and so I have been able to see first hand the excitement in the family. Not only are the parents and grandparents excited but there will soon be a little cousin to dote over.

that life would feel a bit busy with 5 week old twins. This family not only has that but 4 other children under the age of 7. I have to admit when I first heard that there were 6 young children, I gulped a bit. Then I met with this mother last week to plan the session I knew that things were going to go extremely smooth. It was just a feeling and it was exactly how the session went. The children are incredibly well behaved and are not strangers to having their portraits taken.

I love the picture of the girls. It was so apparent how thrilled the eldest daughter was to have these twin girls even the numbers out:). Enjoy your sneak peek…lots more to come.
