calgary family photographerDuring a session, I shoot a lot.  I shoot to get the most relaxed and real shots…and so sometimes you get this:).  Probably not the wall art image but funny all the same:).  Love working with this family year after year.  The boys have sprouted up this year…will share more soon!

Just a year | Calgary/California Family Photographer05.09.13

calgary family photographyI am just going through my April pictures to narrow down my favourites and these two from Joshua Tree park made me think of this time last year.  I always do a Mother’s Day shoot (I will be this weekend) because I would have for my mum.  I had not realized how much my children changed this year until I saw these.  I knew they had changed but wow!!.  They are looking so mature (although my son’s stern look is due to squinting because I made him take his glasses off so I could see his eyes;).  And the fact that the little one was making noises with her mouth is a reminder they are still kids:) More soon.

Sugar | Calgary/California Photographer…and foodie:)05.08.13

So this has nothing to do with photography but a thought I would put it up here anyway cuz I am a wee bit proud of my kids for it:).  Last week the kids and I put together a sugar display for a fitness event at school…it was something that we had seen at our school in Calgary and it had a huge impact on the kids there so thought it would be fun to do here.  If you know me or even follow my blog, you probably know I am a bit of a health and food nut.  I always have been but am even more so now as I feed my family and teach my children about nourishing their bodies with amazing foods to produce the most amount of energy.

Although we do not purchase a lot of processed foods, we have always had to be aware of nutritional information labelling on the ones we do because of allergies.  So it is has always been second nature for my children to de-code the labels.  The visual display makes it really easy to see how much sugar is hidden in a lot of foods (even ones we think might be good choices).  I am by no means an expert in this area but do definitely find it interesting.  If you are interested, the documentary “Hungy for Change” provides more information on sugar and artificial sweeteners and their effects.  My husband even benefitted from the movie, despite my years of telling him about how bad aspartame is, this movie finally hit home to him and he abruptly stopped drinking diet pop (soda):).

calgary family photographerWorking on this order today and love that this little guy’s mom chose this one.  Something about it I love:)  Actually love that she chose all of the unconventional shots from the shoot – they are always my favourites too – there is a story behind them.  Will share the canvas shots that she chose when they are in:).

Overcommitted | Calgary Family Photographer05.03.13

I have always been really great at overcommitting myself.  I have also been really great at keeping up with my overcommitments:).  This year I have found my limit though.  Not sure what it is that has helped me to realize it  - age, priority realization, maturity (haha, probably not), friends, yoga, kids melting down:(…  Probably a combination of all of them.  I have been trying to get involved in a bunch of different activities to try to find a place in my new community and to try to find my way of giving back (cuz I always have…and always will).  Over the last few weeks though, I have noticed a direct effect of my overcommitment on my own personal community (my family) and my business (have not even got my fall times up for you yet).  I have not been able to spend as much time working on the three things that mean the most to me – family, health and photography.  So I have taken myself off some extra-curricular activities to get back to focussing on what I love.  Sadly one of them is a charity that I was excited about in Redlands and the other is the CIBC Run for the Cure.  I have other ways that I will be giving back to both of these charities but will be taking a step back for this year.  I will have more on the CIBC Run for the Cure over the next little while as so many of you have been so incredibly supportive over the last 5 years.

And well a picture, because I am so grateful that I get to capture little moments like this:).
